INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGY ASSOCIATION NETWORK
GENEALOGY CONFERENCE RULES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Revised 7 March 1995
Echo Tag : IGA_GENEALOGY
Co-Moderators: Jennifer Schmidt (440:113/50)
Jack Williams (440:113/1)
1. The purpose of the IGA_Net<tm> Genealogy Conference is to
provide an international forum for the discussion of genealogical,
heraldic, and family historical matters.
2. Messages in this echo must conform with the current rules in
place for IGA_Net<tm>. Please note that any message which is
lawful, friendly, and related to genealogy is not likely to fall
afoul of any IGA_Net<tm> rule.
3. Personal attacks or "flames" are prohibited as is offensive
language.
4. Leave the moderating to the moderators.
5. General announcements regarding genealogical books, software,
or related products are permitted, providing they are brief,
one-time, and the person making the announcement will not profit
monetarily. Discussion, comparison, and reviews of such products
are encouraged.
6. Since names are the heart and soul of genealogy, aliases are
extremely discouraged. If, due to BBS software limitations, an
alias is used in the message header, the real name MUST be signed
in the body of the message.
7. The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the
originator of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize
a tagline, the tagline will only be a short line detailing research
surnames:
Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
8. This conference may not be gated to any other network without
the express consent of the IGA_Net(tm) North American Coordinator
(440:1/1).
9. Messages should be in English if possible, but there are no
general language restrictions.
10. Questions or comments about these rules, the echo, or its
management should be sent via netmail to the moderators.
************************************************************
Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
(above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
in messages in this echo.
